About Us


Founded in 2013, The Writer's Block holds its ground as The University of Alabama in Huntsville’s premier writing organization. Students of all majors are welcome to attend our weekly meetings to improve their creative writing skills and connect with fellow writers.

The Writer’s Block publishes yearly issues of its literary magazine featuring creative works from students and alumni of UAH. Our magazines will always be available for free to the student body.Featured here are previous years' magazine for your enjoyment. Guidelines

SUBMISSIONS DUE OCTOBER 31st
The Writer's Block utilizes rolling deadlines. Any pieces submitted after the due date will be rolled over to the following year's magazine.
-- Types of Submissions --
>> Prose: 2000 words max; may send up to 3 pieces max
>> Poetry: 1000 words max; may send up to 3 pieces max
>> Art: Original work only; may send up to 3 pieces max
(If you would like to submit something else, please contact an officer to discuss.)
-- Email Guidelines --
Submission emails should include the author's name, submission titles, and the author's preferred T-shirt size.

Art submissions must include the artist's name, but title of pieces are optional.

Submissions should be attached as documents that can be turned into word documents.

Email should be titled: Magazine Submission

-- Document Guidelines --
Should not include Titles, Author, names, or any other similar details.
Please no "fancy fonts", highlighting, colored words, or colored paper.

>> Previously Published Work
>> Harassment
>> Work with Sexual Misconduct
>> Work with Sexual Violence

Please keep work PG-13-- keep swearing to a minimum.
